Plain Jump v1.0 Released
Posted on 22 September 1998, 00:58 GMT

Sam Heald has ported Plain Jump, a game originally made for the TI-85 by Andreas Ess of Icarus Productions, to the TI-82 and TI-83. The game features fast 3D-graphics, a teacher key, a custom level, a high score function, and an on-calc level editor. However you can only have one custom level. External levels will be added after Ash 3.1 is released.

Note: In case anyone is wondering why the game isn't called "Plane Jump", it's because Andreas looked up the wrong word in the dictionary. :)

I think, Plain Jump should have a random track everytime you play like "HP48". Same track seems kinda worse. But the game is still good. Btw, the on-calc level editor really sucks.

What's wrong with it? (other than it being extremely time consuming)

At least it's not as bad as the basic one I wrote for PJ86. There you have to input the number corresponding to the row in binary and you can't go back and see what it looks like w/o an ASCII chart. My level is still the only one :(

I don't agree with you saying that on the Hp48 has random tracks everytime you play. There is only one track in the entire game. Every time you lose, you move back a couple of feet. Before you know it, you'll be at the starting line. I just beat the game which is 1 track, 2 days ago after playing that game for over 1 year and half. It's quite addictive. =)

BUG FIXED.

I just figured out how to fix the occasional 2/3 lives lost bug.

PJ should be updated on Friday with some stuff fixed/added(lives bug fix, straighter lines, improved level editor, a little optimization, possibly lib support on the 83, other minor improvements)......a little more polished :)

Was the problem with the lives that a life gets taken away before it checks for a place to put the ball?

No, the problem was rather complicated, but also very simple. I originally started with the Zshell version's lost life routine. It didn't work very well, but it worked okay. I tried the Usgard version's lost life routine and it didn't work at all! I played around with the Zshell version's for awhile, and got the effect seen in the previous version. Yesterday, I spent 20-30 minutes messing around with the routine from Usgard and the problem was corrected.

I sent in the new version to ticalc.org yesterday, but it hasn't been updated, yet. The lines are as straight as they are going to get, and the level editor is as good as it is going to get.
You can find the new version at the Icarus Productions website (andreas.ganymed.org:81).
