Attention span: 6/10 The tracks loop and are repetetive Controls: 6/10 They are way too responsive Implementation: 6/10 An avoid-the-walls type game Overall: 6/10 A racing game with a small twist
Whiplash Racing is your basic avoid-the-walls type game. Your car is moving upwards on the screen. In the game, there are seven premade tracks, all featuring names like, "Grandma's Turnpike" or "Shift into overdrive!" (These are examples of the two extremes). The tracks do not get narrower like most other race games, but instead have twists and turns that you have to navigate. Also, at various predestined sections within each track, your car speeds up and slows down (against your consent) to make it more difficult to move around curves. Every track has its own average speed, and thus, its own difficulty. The ones mentioned above are slow and fast, respectively. Every few seconds, the track loops around to the beginning, so it gets kind of repetitive. The highscore feature in this game is interesting, being based on the best score for each track, not just for the whole game.
The graphics are crude to say the least. The car itself is just a triangle, and the walls are just black. Everything else is white.
The controls are simple enough: left and right on the arrow pad. There is a problem with the speed though; it is too responsive. By this I mean that simply tapping a button sends your car flying in that direction.
Overall, this game is simply a racing game with a twist. Unfortunately, that twist is not big enough to make much of an impact on the game. At the core, it is an avoid-the-wall game. But, since it is only 5000 someodd bytes big, I say just download it. The fun does not last long, but what the heck, everyone should have a racing game on their calculator. It's a rule. |
