Attention span: 5/10 Only useful if you have someone to play with. If Dux gets the artificial intelligence working, this will be a good 9 or 10. Controls: 8/10 Good controls. The arrows are a little bit slow, and you can't see what you're doing if you hold down an arrow key. Implementation: 9/10 Except for the castling, en passent, and check problems, this is like playing on a real board! Overall: 7/10 This game can only get better.
ZBlitz is a beta implementation of chess for the TI-86. This is the best chess game I have seen for any TI calculator. This is primarily because the game uses four levels of grayscale, which make playing much easier. ZBlitz features the ability to load and save games and the ability to take back moves all of the way to the beginning of the game. The game checks all of your moves and notifies you of any illegal moves (except during check, as noted below).
The movement is a little bit slow, but that's to be expect with grayscale. The game currently does nothing about check and checkmate, allowing the game to continue after the opponent's king has been taken. Also, you cannot castle if white is on top, and en passent is not allowed. Dux plans to add either a two-player link mode or artificial intelligence in the near future. |
