Attention span: 9/10 Great Suspense!
Controls: 10/10 Just hit ENTER, F1, or F5.
Implementation: 5/10 Needs pictures & more menu choices.
Overall: 8/10 Good but temporarily entertaining.

If you have never heard of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" book series, you obviously don't read books. For those of you who do know about those series, good. For those of you who are at your computer saying, "what in the world?....", I'll explain them to you.

The "Choose Your Own Adventure" books are books for kids around ages 8-10. The title gives the best description of the book series; you get to choose your own adventure. In other words, the books allow you to choose what you would like to do in the story, instead of the book making all the choices for you. It's sort of like interacting with the plot.

Choose Your Own Adventure 86 is only a calculator version of the book series. Unlike the book series, there is only one story. Of course, you're probably thinking, "How can this be fun, I hate books!" CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) is actually temporarily enjoyable.

The Story: You start off as a normal kid who just moved into a house. There's your friends, a baseball field, school, bullies, etc. While you're looking through your attic with your friend Robert, you see an old trunk. In the trunk you find.... well, I don't want to ruin the story so you'll just have put the program on your calculator. :)

The graphics: You can't expect much from a calculator program that is based on a book series. The graphics, well, aren't really graphics; just text. The story is still exciting because of the multiple possible outcomes, but some animated pictures wouldn't be a bad addition, just to help the program be more exciting.

If you like the idea of the freedom to make your own choices in Choose Your Own Adventure 86, you should try going to your local library and picking up some of the many books of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" series. I sound like Reading Rainbow! LOL. There's about 200 of those books. I always wanted to finish them all, but new ones kept coming out.

This program truly is a great copy of the real deal and gives the same suspense as the books do. It may not stay on your calculator for long, but maybe some new stories will be made.
