This is an excellent game based off an excellent premise. The graphics are perfect for this purpose, the sensitivity of the up button feels just right, as does the gravity.
This game is so simple it's addictive. It just works, and it works well. It is one of my favorite games by far.
I only have a few small complaints. First of all, the game Doesn't save my hiscore properly (only because i am using CalcUtil and running it archived; when i run it unarchived it works fine). I'd also like to see a pause button added, perhaps. The only other issue i have is that after you finish a game, it dumps you back out to the home screen, and you must rerun the program. This makes me press the enter button twice, a very minor complaint, but when you're as lazy as me... |

Wow. Cave is one of the best games that I have seen for the TI-83+. If you've ever played Helicopter on Ebaum's World, this game is for you. Okay, now to the rating:
Graphics: 10/10 Graphics aren't a big factor due to the fact that it's a calculator and an arcade game, but it's not totally plain either.
Controls: 10/10 Since only one button is used, the [UP] button, this game is pretty easy to use. It's very sensitive, so be careful!
Replay: 10/10
Overall: 9/10 What can I say. You can always get better.
A very well written game, though it could use an update. A title screen and maybe a few options, like speed and difficulty would be cool. At only about 2,000 bytes, this one's a keeper. |

Cave is basically a clone of the old SFcave. The idea is to use only vertical boosters to get through a winding cave, using gravity as your downward movement. This premise was pulled off wonderfully, giving it a real arcade feel. Most of this ribbony goodness makes it into Cave. Despite a few minor graphical glitches, Cave revives the phenomenon of SFcave on the TI-83. |

There are many other "cave" or "tunnel" games for the 83+, but in my opinion, this is by far the best one. The main thing that makes it so good is the gravity. The gravity is strong, so you can't let go of the Up key for too long, but the Up key is very sensitive, so you can't hold it down for too long or you'll hit the top of the tunnel, making the game more challenging. The graphics are simple, but they serve their purpose well, and complex graphics aren't needed here anyways. Sometimes it can be a little hard to see what's going on on-screen with all the movement, but that can be easily fixed by turning the contrast up.
The only part I don't like is the lack of documentation. It would have been nice to find out that the "rise" button was the Up key without trying the entire keypad.
Altogether, this game is EXTREMELY addictive (it alone kept me entertained through a boring 1-week vacation), and I would give it a 10/10 rating. |
