Attention span: 5/10 Lack of levels makes it makes it unappealing. Controls: 8/10 Reverse controls, no info on them in documentation. Implementation: 7/10 Very nicely done for a game in beta. Overall: 7/10 Quick dose of fun, not much afterwards.
Lunar Lander II is a simple game where one must control a ship to a landing pad before the player runs out of fuel. Three challenge levels are offered in the game, each one increasing the challenge at a moderate level. The graphics are simple, probably to keep the speed of the game constant and pleasing. Although the graphics are simple and plain, the are to the point.
The landing pad can be easily confused with the background, and it seems to "hover" at some points in the terrain. The controls seem odd at first, mostly because they are inverted (i.e.: up moves down, left moves right). Once the player figures this out, they are able to finish this game in no time. At the "easy" level, the player is given 90 units (as I shall call them) of fuel to maneuver. This is more than enough to get to the landing pad. At the "medium" level player is given 50 units of fuel. This somewhat increases the difficulty of the game. At the "hard" level, the challenge is not very hard if one finds the trick of it. The player is given 30 units of fuel that can run out pretty quickly. At this level, one must have a bit of luck so they do not start to far away from the pad. This game has only a hint of replay value. There is only one background, so the game can be repetitive. The inclusion of more backgrounds or other elements and challenges could have increased the replay value, nut no such luck here. I was able to completely master this game in less than 10 minutes, and I found that I did not want to play it afterwards.
In short, this is a very innovative and original (as far as I know), but it would be better if it had more challenges and higher replay value. I can recommend this game only if you want a simple game that can easily be finished and is simple and (somewhat) fun. The controls are awkward (unless you remember that when you are in space, all the controls are the opposite than those of Earth), but the player easily gets used to them. The graphics are simple but effective, and the whole game is implemented very nicely. |
