Attention span: 8/10 Challenging but gets aggrivating. Controls: 10/10 Easy keys. Implementation: 6/10 Could be better with SOME pictures. Overall: 8/10 Fun and challenging!
Adventure v0.9, by William George, is an all text-based RPG. It uses large text by using the "Output" command, and uses menus through the "Menu" command.
I first tried using the program with Aurora Shell Enhanced with 85 emulation, etc, and I ran into a lot of code 14 errors; "Undefined". I also ran into one code 22; "Label". I don't suggest running this program using a shell. You don't even need a shell to run the program because it's BASIC.
The title screen is nice to say that this is an all text RPG. The words William used really does give you a feel of what's actually happening in the game. You feel like you are the main character and you are really doing what the character does!
What I didn't like about the game was moving in certain directions. Because the whole game is text, you don't have a map for navigation. All you can do is pick North, South, East, or West; this makes moving from place to place and finding towns very difficult. So far, I've only been able to find two towns.
The enemies were extremely strong, and you DO have the option of running from a battle. I've never been able to run from a battle because the enemy was too fast or too strong. Sometimes you get into a battle with a weak enemy, and sometimes you get an emeny that just wants to assassinate you! You can however, change the settings of the game. William wrote in his readme file that he hadn't tested the game out, so let him know about any bugs or anything.
Overall, the program is good. If William can manage to write it in assembly, and add a few pictures, it would be one extremely good program. Hopefully we'll see more versions of this game. |
