Attention span: 4/10 Very limited replay value. Controls: 8/10 Simple, well explained. Implementation: 7/10 Missing lifelines, but still good. Overall: 6/10 Try it if you like trivia.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: a simple game show from the United Kingdom that has become popular worldwide and has started a gameshow revival in the United States. This game for your TI-83 is based on the show, and is pretty good compared to others like it.
WWTBAM is very easy to play: you are given a question that has four possible answers. Choose the right answer. Getting the right answer means you get more money (although you can't really win money here, obviously). You have to answer 15 questions to win the $1 million; The first is worth $100, the second worth $200, and so on until the last one, worth $1 million. There are two milestone questions; if you get the first one right, you are guarenteed at least $1000. The second guarentees $32000. If you answer incorrectly, you lose all the money down to your last milestone.
I played 3 different versions of WWTBAM for the 83, and this one is the best I have found. It uses simple but effective graphics, which the other games did not. The categories vary from the Internet to sports to music. This game does the best overall job of copying the TV show.
There are only a few things I would've liked to have seen. The questions are the same every time you play, so replay value after you finally win is almost none. If you miss a question and play again, you have to play through all of the previous questions again in the same exact order. This is irritating if you're on the next-to-last question and you have no idea what the answer is. To try all four answers you may have to play through all the questions four times. There are no lifelines (I haven't seen a game with lifelines yet), so you're all alone unless someone standing near you can help (or you play try each answer until one works). Also, the "walk away" feature isn't perfect. It says you answered the question incorrectly and crashes you back to the last milestone (which you were hoping to avoid by walking away in the first place).
Still, this game is a good game until you beat it. As a loyal fan of the show, I found this to be a good implementation for the 83. If you're a fan of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, give this a try. |
