If you say that ONLY Assembly programs are good, then you are wrong. Minesweeper 83 is a great Minesweeper program for the TI-83 written completely in the BASIC programming language.

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Minesweeper is a game where you have a board and you have to open each piece on the board up without hitting the mines. You accomplish this by opening a block on the board and it will give you a number. This number tells you how many mines there are next to it. Once you open every block on the board without hitting the mines, you win the game. If you do open up a block and there is a mine in it, well guess what? You lose.

The game features very nice graphics for a BASIC game. The game loading time goes pretty fast too. You can also choose how many mines there are on the board. Unlike most of the Minesweeper games for the TI-83, whenever you open up a block and there aren't any mines around it it will automatically open up all the surrounding pieces that doesn't have mines in them, making your life easier when playing. Of the other Minesweeper games I know for the TI-83, you have to open each block by block even if there aren't any mines around it. Another nice feature is the auto relocation of mines if you open up a mine on your first try when playing. In short, this means that you cannot lose on your first try opening the block.

Those are only some of the great features that this game has. Other features include fast cursor movement, a timer, and it keeps 8 high scores.

In conclusion, this is a great game written in BASIC for the TI-83. This is one of those games that proves that games written in BASIC can be great too. Great job, Chris Hamilton. =)
