Baseball 99 has three modes in the game: homerun derby, exhibition, and season. Of course, if you have the game on your calc. you will most likely be playing the season mode. This game is great, except for a few problems, which include the fact that once you hit the ball, the time at which you hit it affects nothing, it is literally a coin flip by the game to determine whether or not you get a hit (and it is shown by the ball either rolling towards a fielder or skipping between them). There are only a few paths on which the ball moves, so after a while, this is really frustrating, especially since you will be getting your fair share of outs. On the other hand, there is no fielding in the game either; the computer is randomly given a score for each inning, which is also unfair since it is very hard to score). The computer will, for the most part, beat you over and over again.
One final complaint is that sometimes after a season game the game will crash, and every time you load it the game will just keep throwing pitches over the plate and calling outs, meaning that you have to delete the game and reinstall it, and ultimately start your season over again.
Baseball 99 is a good try, but it doesn't work too well. I give it a 3 out of 5. |

Gameplay: 7/10. The gameplay is fun, at times, but it can get boring over time. The ball only goes in such lines that there is no "hope" of getting a run. What I mean is that if you just uploaded BB '99 to your 83+, then you are going to constantly hit the ball to the fielders. An easy way to know if it is going to the opposing team is that when it looks as if it is going to the fielder....it is. There is no chance of it in a blue moon going to curve away. Hitting can be quite annoying.
Graphics: 7/10. The graphics are good (on a calculator graphic scale). Stick Figures, lines, etc. Nothing new to expect.
Overall: 7/10. This game will stay on your calculator for approximately a month. There is not a great fun factor in doing the same thing over and over. But don't forget: its still good :) |

Baseball '99! Sweet! You always strike the ball. Sweeter! Graphics suck. Screw that. This game is pretty good for a baseball game. It took me a looonnng time to finish a season. Pretty good for baseball games!
Baseball '99 gets an 8/10 for getting boring after a while. Of course, the graphics aren't GREAT either ;) |

BASEBALL!!! The American past-time! Few things are better than sitting back in your desk, pulling out your calculator, ignoring your teacher, and slamming a few home runs!
The title screen is pretty cool. The in-game graphics are fairly simple, but pleasing to the eye. The ball's a dot. That sucks. But so be it.
This game is really fun to play. You can play an exhibition, a season, or a homerun derby. All of these are each pretty entertaining in their own way. One thing that really bites about "Baseball '99" is that when you hit the ball, it can only go in so many spots. It has to follow specific lines. You also can't play outfield. You are always at the bat. This makes the game feel like it's incomplete.
It took me awhile to play a season. It's pretty fun too. It might bore you after awhile, but it also might entertain you for a few days. It just depends on what you're looking for in a baseball game. I'll tell you, though, this is the best baseball game out there for the 83+!
It is really hard to hit the ball in the right place for a home run. Or for a single, double, or triple for that matter. You gotta hit it JUST right. Your timing must be excellent to succeed at this game. The controls are simple, however, and, if you play enough, you'll get used to it. :)
"Baseball '99" is fun. It's also not a very complete ball game. But it's the best thing out there right now, so download it and enjoy!
"Baseball '99" gets a 7/10! |
