TI-M: more 4d stuff
hey everyone, i know this might be kinda old, but i get the digest edition
of this newsletter, and i just saw the msg about 4d stuff. i found this
site a while ago, really interesting stuff, talks about 4d cube, a
tesseract.
http://www.geom.umn.edu/docs/outreach/4-cube/
there's a bunch of mpgs on there that show u what a 4d cube would look like
in 3d space. if u'r on a broadband connection, enjoy :)
about the 4th and higher dimensions:
since we exist in a 3d world, it is physically impossible for us to see any
dimension higher than the 3rd. in order to visualize higher dimension
stuff, it must be projected onto a lower dimension. everyone has seen this
when people draw a cube on a sheet of paper. we give it a "depth" that is
not actually there on the sheet of paper, but can be seen. so if you want
to see what a 4d cube looks like, you'd have to project it onto the 3rd
dimenion to view it... and by rotating it around, you can get a feel of what
it would look like in the 4th dimension. however, it'd be pretty darn hard
to build something that could show us what a 4d cube in 3d space would look
like. oh yeah, there's this nifty java applet i found a while ago too..
here:

there's the cool java applet in the middle, but be sure to check out the
HyperCube applet in the right window pane... and pick "Stereo" when the
applet loads up. that makes it like a stereogram (i think that's what
they're called ) the thing where u look at a poster or something that
seemingly has nothing on it, blur your eyes a bit, then see a 3d image pop
out. well, with this applet, you can see what the 4th dimension would look
like... pretty cool stuff
