Could be lots of stuff, automated billing, drive-by sensing
of passing vehicles and remote administration to name a few.
Difficult is pretty much a matter of time and experiance,
pretty much any competent programmer can figure out how to
do just about anything given enough time.

I guess that covers "competent programmer" :)

I'm not sure what you mean. If you design one for the
other you pretty much have a perfect match, unless you
run into some kind of limitation in one or the other.

I guess that depends on the device, but in general, your
right, not just any moron can put together a reasonably complex
device.
Hey Grant, do you have any intention of making your
MP3 player availble to the general public? I know
your plans are on the web, but in their current format
on a handful of people can understand them.
With a coherent instruction manual, parts list, clean
PCB layout and offer for preprogrammed AVRs you might
actually make some money on it.
BTW, how do you get MP3's onto the HD?? It would be neat
to be able to hook the player up to the computer and add/delete
songs from the players HD.
