It's one form of the correct answer, the other being (4n + 3)^2
You get the answer you got when the calculator is in APPROXIMATE mode, and
the other, perhaps slightly prettier answer in EXACT or AUTO mode.
Really, did you honestly think that it was going to fall over factoring a
simple quadratic expression? It is worrying when students rush to high
powered machines like the TI-89 and HP48 for something so basic that can and
should be solved with pencil and paper in a few seconds.
