Or, the mouse on COM 1 could be conflicting.  Port 1 and 3, Port 2 and 4
Like to hang together.  Try running w/out your mouse and plug cable into
Com1.  If you don't have an internal modem, you should have an external
com2 that works.  I haven't seen many computers w/a com 3 port.
