A89: c help

i've been trying to learn ti-gcc, and i understand 75% of the stuff, but 
what i haven't figured out yet is how do I get the ICON 's to not be just 
garbage? is there an easy way to do it other than trial and error? this is 
probably a stupid question, but one I would like to know.  Also, is there an 
indirection similar to "#" in ti-basic?  any help is grateful.
