A86: Re: Midi to Ti-86
I hate to say that stuff is impossible when it comes to programming, because
if you do, someone will probably find a way to make it happen. But in this
case, it really is. Midi's are a special format that play music using
recorded instruments built into sound cards. Sound on the 86 is done
essentially the same way as with the PC speaker. There is no instrument
table, and there wouldn't be enough room or time (the speed of the processor
and hardware) to simulate one.
But I agree, it would be cool. The z80-based gameboy is able to have music
and sound because it is built into the hardware. You can't do everything
with software (and probably shouldn't, despite what all the makers of
WINwhatever devices would have you believe).
