Re: A86: HAL-IC

I looked over the source, and came to the conclusion that it was written
with HAL, not with assembly. That's too bad, HAL-IC looked pretty neat.
Maybe someone will finish it someday.

Is anyone interested in an on-calc assembler? There's probably the source
to one or more somewhere, and probably wouldn't be that difficult to port.
You couldn't have include files, so you'd have to print them out (not like
you don't do that anyway). It might be useful for those of you who want to
program in school during those boring classes.

I don't think that having it crash and losing your work is much of an issue.
Most people know someone who has an 86 that they could back it up onto. And
if you are careful, it won't crash. (I wrote Outlaw, which isn't a big
program admitedly, but pretty big to type in by hand, tested it on the calc
every time, and never once had it crash. You just have to be careful.)

It's too bad TI was stupid and included the VAT for the 89's flash rom in
RAM. If they had stored it in the flash rom, you could have your assembler
and source code in the flash rom. If it crashed, you'd just reset the calc,
and it would still be there, undisturbed. Maybe we need to petition TI for
an upgrade...
