A83: Really Messed up 83+
Okay, I need some help. I've exhausted all my other options. My 83+ is
really, really screwed up. The screen is basically just a bunch of garbage,
and it doesn't respond to any of the traditional methods of crash recovery
(batteries out, pressing On, pressing clear, all that). I even left the
batteries out for a whole week and it didn't even change a thing. What
started all this was when I went to reset my calc to install a new version of
Ion. I archived everything I wanted to keep, then went to the reset screen
and hit "Reset all RAM." Then it just froze. Anybody have any ideas? I
tried emailing TI, they told me that I'd have to pay $50 plus S+H for them to
fix it. Not going to happen. I have an older 83 that I can use, but I'd
really like to get my 83+ fixed without paying $50. I tried the ticalc help,
they didn't give me any ideas. I've even tried to use the Graph Link to send
a fresh copy of the ROM and start over, but it wouldn't go because the calc
isn't on the home screen (I assume so, at least). My best guess at this
point as to the problem is that somehow the calc's ROM got corrupted, but
that's just a guess. I'm open to any ideas anybody has to fix it. I have
some electronics know how, so I'm willing to take it apart if that's what it
takes. Right now its just a $100 paperweight, so I'm not worried about
breaking it any more (if I can't get it working again I'll probably just take
it apart for fun). Please help me.
