Three, each for a purpose.
Knight/Rocket Account Info

I carry three at any given time, an 83+. an 89 and a primitive 30 XIIS.

The 89 is for most schoolwork, except for tests and quizzes where graphing calculators are banned. The 83+ is my programming calc, and I use that in Chem II because of the periodic table I made for it.

The 30XIIS is for any tests or quizzes where graphing or programmable calculators are banned. The previous entry line comes in handy though, which is why I like graphing calcs so much.

I was going to post with my opinion but this guy beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing he did. That's freaky, are you in my head? GET OUT OF MY HEAD! (it's gotta be kinda cramped in there anyway, between the voices and my enormous ego and all).

I carry one, a Casio CFX 9850 something or other. Since I lost my TI-83 Plus recently somewhere in my house, I've been using it almost exclusively for class.

At home, I either use MuPAD (a free symbolic manipulation program thingamabobber) or a program on my Visor called powerOne Graph, a decent graphing calculator.

I only bring one calculator to school, a TI-30X IIS. I used to carry an 86 but too many people were bugging me about playing games and most teachers were starting to ban them from tests/quizzes. So I decided there really wasn't much point to having it at school and I resorted back to the good ol' 30X IIS.

I sent my 83+ that has its link port broken to almighty radio shack and they returned it saying they didn't have the parts or they couldn't get the parts to fix it.

Ditto that - the problem is just that TI used almost no solder to hold the linkport down; Repeatedly pligging a cable in and unplugging it is enough to break the port off the motherboard.

Same thing happened to my 83+. I ripped off the back of the case and found the solder was broken in three places. I have yet to try re-soldering it.

I broke the link port on my 92 once. It was out of warrenty and I didn't keep the recipt anyway. So I took it upon myself to do something a little bit illegal. I went down to the local Wal-Mart and bought a new 92. Now you might be saying "That's not illegal." No, it's not. BUT I'M NOT FINNISHED YET SO SHUT UP!!!! (I have issues.) So, I was talken about how I went and bought a new 92. I got home and very carefully oppened the package making sure not to cut the plastic. Eventually I got it open perfect. Pulled out the new 92 and slid the broken one in (after I polished it up of course). Then I used some airplane model glue and closed the package back up. The next day I had my mom return the calc to Wal-Mart. She explained to them that it was a gift for nephew's birthday. She was returning it because he already had one. I suppose I do feel a little guilty for the poor sap who picked up the package with the broken clac in it, but all he had to do is return it immediatly and say it was broken.

WARNING: I do not recommend anyone try this. Even if you do, I take no responsibility if you get caught.

Just my 20000th of a Franklin bill.

I did that with my 89. The graph-link cable broke off inside the calc, so I took my 89 back and I got a new one =) "Um, when I try to plug this thingie into the port, it doesn't go in all the way. It's broken." If my graphlink wasn't 3 years old I would've taken it back too, but I didn't have the reciept either so I just bought a new one. Hey, it could have been worse, I could be down $180 instead of $30. A little hint if you want to do this: be sure to buy your calc from a non-electronics specialty store (ie: wal-mart). The customer service people won't have a clue what really happened =)

And yes, I'm very evil and I have no morals.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with no morals.

I was thinking of trying to get a larger harddrive next. My Wal-Mart carries 40 gig harddrives. I was thinking of buying two of them. Taking them home and burning everything off of my two 10 gig drives. Completely erase the 10 gigs. And repackage them and return them. The 10 and 40 gigs drives look identical on the outside. I know this because a friend bought one. I'm a little leary about trying this though. What kind of excuse can I use for returning these.

I wonder if it can be done with a car?!? I could wouldn't mind getting replacing my truck with a newer one.

My favorite thing to do is go to hy vee and buy their brand of soda. I live in Iowa so there is a deposit on soda cans. But not on hy vee brand. So I buy a case of beer, coke, and two cases of hy vee brand root beer (not that bad actually). When I take the cans back for the nickel return per can, I put the hy vee brand cans in the cases and the beer and coke cans is sacks. Thats a 1.20 in profit per case of hy vee cans. I know it doesn't seem like that much, but it adds up. In a good month I can fill my gas tank in my 2 cars and truck with just deposit refund profits.

Damn I'm cruel. You know I could go to jail for this.

I've had thoughts of borrowing a TI-82 from my school and switching the motherboard with my TI-81's.

The hard drive thing might actually work... break one of the cable connectors and then repackage it. Also, when you return it, be sure to take it to the customer service desk and _NOT_ the electronics department. Take the reciept with you.

That won't work on cars =), and in my community you can get paid for recycling cans.

Right now, I'm the only vote for "5 or more." Sure, I'm addicted to TI calculators, but I carry my 82,83,83+,86,89 to school. And I can't wait to buy a 83+ SE :)

Why so many calcs for school? I can rationalize my three, but 5 seems a little excessive.

I use my 89 for math, my 86 for games, my 83+ for programming and games, my 83 is for listening to music (via Song Player) and my 82 is just there as a "backup". Oh, and I also carry 16 AAA Duracell Ultra batteries with me. I know I have a slight obsession.

why not keep an 85 strapped under your desk in each class, you know, just in case something happens to your 89, 86, 83, 83+, and 82!!!

The 86 has a better programming language than the 83+, and the 89's language is better than the 86's. Sell your 83 and your 83+, and get an 83+ SE. Personally, I think the 82/83/83+/83+SE series sucks, but that's my problem.
