At the startup screen, leave the "File:" box blank. This creates a new level. Enter the title of your level, the author's name, and the date at the next screen. You will then see this list of controls: Move the cursor with the arrow keys. Select the ring type with the F1-F4 keys. F1-Normal, F2-Blocked, F3-Locked (lock on left), F4-Locked (lock on right). Press ENTER to place/replace a ring. Press (-) to apply a new style to an existing ring. Press CLEAR to erase the last ring. Move from ring to ring with + and -. Press F5 to save the course. Press ESC to quit. Level-creation in detail. The main screen is a front view of the course (just like the game's perspective, only zoomed out). Each ring is represented by a dot; the blinking dot is the current ring. The info bar on the left shows your current selections. The info bar on the right shows the properties of the current ring. Example: 2 1 (5,-5) [2 0 (4,-5)] ---------------------------- Current Properties of selections current ring In the current selections part of this example, the 2 is the ring number, the 1 is the current type (blocked), and (5,-5) are the coordinates of the cursor. In the properties of the current ring part of this example, the 2 is the ring number, the 0 is the type of that ring (normal), and (4,-5) is the position of the ring. When the second status bar says [], you are about to place a new ring. When it has information in it, you are about to overwrite that ring. The first ring is already placed for you. Press + to move to a new ring. When you press ENTER and are on a new ring, that ring is created. It now appears on the screen. If you made a mistake on a ring, go to the offending ring using +/-, move the cursor to where the ring should be and set the proper ring type, and press ENTER. Essentially, what ENTER does is takes what's on the left status bar and pastes it into the right. If you only want to change the type of an existing ring, select it with +/-, set the proper type, and press (-) (the negative button). To delete the last ring, press CLEAR. You cannot delete rings in the middle of a course, only the last one. When you're all done, press F5 to go to the Save screen. Type in a filename and make any necessary changes to the course's info. Then press ENTER. Playing a created level. Start up LXXXIX. At the Course Select screen, type the filename of your level in the box and press ENTER. You should see the info for your level on the next screen. Editing a level outside of the editor. You can edit a level outside of the comfort of the editor. All levels are matrices, so you can open them up in the matrix editor. Each row is a ring. The first column is the x coordinate, the second is the y coordinate, and the third is the ring type. The last two rows do not contain course data. The second-to-last contains the level info [course name, author, date] and the last row tells LXXXIX that this is a valid level file. If you're going to make a level using the matrix editor, the last row of the matrix MUST be: ["LXXXIX","LXXXIX","LXXXIX"]. email: matts226@aol.com website: odin.prohosting.com/mjs2k blake.prohosting.com/~m15
