________________________________________________________________________ BlackJack by Paul Harry Version 1.0 - October 26, 2008 *** Email: elite.ti.programs@gmail.com Website: http://sites.google.com/site/elitetipa ________________________________________________________________________ ___Overview___ BlackJack is an excellent reproduction of the famous casino game. The aim is to beat the dealer by scoring closer to 21 than him (without going over) and win the (unlimited) bet amount. The game follows all of the casino rules including 1 or 11 scoring for an Ace, optional surrender, double-down and a bonus for a Black Jack and 5 Card Charlie. The program also includes a statistics page to keep track of your topscore; games played, won, drawn and lost; money bet, won, and lost; and money won from Black Jack, Double Down and 5 Card Charlie. To play the game, transfer the files BLAKJAK, ZBJPLAY, ZBJSTATS, Pic8 and Pic9 and then execute BLAKJAK on your calculator. ___Things to Know___ - I am aware that the help file included in the program does not exist. This is simply because I don't think it is necessary and because I can't be bothered to write it up. - This game may at times seem to be rigged against the player. In fact, if I hadn't written it myself, I would think that it was rigged. Nevertheless, I can assure you that card selection is completely random and that the game is not rigged in any way. - Feel free to distribute and/or modify the program at your leisure. The only thing I ask is that you do not claim credit for parts not created by you. - If you have any suggestions or comments about this game or find any problems with it, please email me at: paulharry91@gmail.com or elite.ti.programs@gmail.com ___Game Play___ The game itself is pretty self-explanatory. There are on-screen instructions at many stages in the game. It works extensively with the five f-keys or soft keys which correspond to the tabs at the bottom of the screen. The rules of Black Jack are explained below. After you place your bet, the dealer deals himself and you a hand of two cards. Yours are at the bottom of the screen and his are above them. You only see his first card. The cards score as follows: - An ace scores 11 as long as your total score is under 21. Otherwise it scores 1. - Cards 2 through to 10 score according to their face value. - Face cards (jack, queen and king) all score ten. If your first two cards consist of an ace and a card worth ten points (jack, queen, king or 10), you automatically win. This is called a blackjack and it pays 3 to 2. On your first turn, you can choose to be hit (receive another card), to stand (keep your hand and score), to double down (you receive twice the bet if you win but lose the original amount if you lose. The catch is you are only allowed one more card and must stand after receiving it.) or to surrender (concede defeat and lose only half the original bet). After being hit, you may no longer choose to double down or surrender. If you get five cards with a total of 21 or less (called a five card charlie), you automatically win and are paid 5 to 2. If you choose to stand, the dealer reveals his second card. If his score is below 17, he receives another card. The dealer continues to take cards until he has a total of 17 or greater or until he busts. If his final total is less than yours or he busts, you win the bet amount. If the dealer's score matches yours, it is called a push and your bet is returned to you (you don't lose any money). Of course, if you bust or if the dealer scores closer to 21 than you, you lose the bet amount. BlackJack saves your progress as you play, so there is no need to save the game manually. Also, your bet amount is subtracted from your cash as soon as you place it and this amount is saved. This means that if you lose a round, you cannot just exit the program by pressing [ON] before the losing screen appears without losing the bet amount. That is, you can't cheat. Enjoy!!
