-------------------- NMath V1.0 By Nathan Hale LordNathan@yahoo.com For the TI-83 TI-0S or SOS -------------------- This program solves a system of equations, of any size (memory allowing), with an option for solving specifically 2-var equations. This is especially useful for multiple choice tests. Instructions: To solve a two variable equation such as: X - Y=1 and 2X+3Y=4, Follow these steps: 1)Select 2-VAR EQUATION from the Main Menu. 2)Type in 1 for A, -1 for B, and 1 for C 3)Type in 2 for D, 3 for E, and 4 for F. 4)NMath then shows you the answers, and your equations. In this case, X=1.4 and Y=.4 (do it on paper if you don't believe me.) To solve for a 3 variable equation such as: 4X+7Y+5Z=5 3X+ Y+ Z=4 X+2Y+2Y=5 Follow these steps: 1) Enter 3 for the number of equations 2) Enter 4 for Coefficient 1, Equation 1 3) Enter 3 for Coefficient 1, Equation 2 4) Enter 1 for Coefficient 1, Equation 3 5) Enter 7 for Coefficient 2, Equation 1 6) Enter 1 for Coefficient 2, Equation 2 7) Enter 2 for Coefficient 2, Equation 3 8) Enter 5 for Coefficient 3, Equation 1 9) Enter 1 for Coefficient 3, Equation 2 10) Enter 2 for Coefficient 3, Equation 3 11)Enter 5 for 'C'#1, 4 for 'C'#2, and 5 for 'C'#3 (see below) 12)Nmath shows your answers in the order of the variables (X, Y, Z in this case) [[.6 ] [-4.2] [6.4 ]] Notes on more than three variables: 'C' is whatever you have on the side of your equation WITHOUT variables. It is important that your equation be in this format. Also, do not place variables in a random order. Example: 4W+3Z+4Y+2X=0 3Z+4W+2X+4Y=2 2X+4Y+4W+3Z=1 4Y+2x+3Z+4W=3 In this example, you wouldn't know the order for your variables, and would get the incorrect answer. To correct it, rearrange these variables like so: 4W+3Z+4Y+2X=0 4W+3Z+4Y+2X=2 4W+3Z+4Y+2X=1 4W+3Z+4Y+2X=3 Also, if you get a message that says "INVALID EQUATION," then you incorrectly entered the equation, have the incorrect equation, or will need to do it by hand, because Nmath CANNOT solve equations with s determinant of zero or a SINGULAR MAT error will occur. Perhaps this diagram will clear this up: 4X+7Y+5Z=5 3X+ Y+ Z=4 X+2Y+2Y=5 (CO-E = Coefficient) ___________| CO-E 1 | CO-E 2 | CO-E 4 | 'C' |____________ |Equation 1| 4 | 7 | 5 | 5 | |Equation 2| 3 | 1 | 1 | 4 | |Equation 3| 1 | 2 | 2 | 5 | ________________________________________________________| I wouldn't recommend using this feature for the first time on a math test. Make sure you know how to use it or you may get the wrong answer. If you find any bugs, or have any suggestions and comments, feel free to contact me at: LordNathan@yahoo.com
