A Word from the Mikesoft Team 1. Getting Started: Welcome to Windows TI! WinTI is a BASIC shell for the TI-82 calculator. It is by far the easiest to use and most customizable shell out there. From top to bottom, it faithfully copies the Micro$oft Windows GUI, only WinTI is actually STABLE! And it's free too! So let's get started here, shall we? 2. Installation: Required Files: prgmWIN prgmWINSETUP prgmWINVER prgm@CONTROL prgm@HELP prgm@INSTALL prgm@KEYHAND prgm@LCD prgm@MODSWAP prgm@MOUSE prgm@PROGRAM prgm@SHUTDWN prgm@START prgm@TIMEOUT a. Graph Link: Simply hook up the cables and send the "mwinti41.82g" file to the calculator. Proceed to item 3, "Using Windows TI." b. No Graph Link: This is a little harder. Ungroup the "mwinti.82g" file, rename all the files beginning with a theta, and manually type them in. Please be careful! The slightest mistake in typing could create some very significant bugs. (Note: Make sure to name the files on the calculator properly. Files beginning with a theta that were renamed need to be typed in beginning with a theta, or WinTI will not run.) 3. Using Windows TI a. Basic Use: Very simple, actually. Just run "prgmWIN" and WinTI will run an installer. After it has completed installation, the WinTI startup screen will appear, followed by the desktop. The mouse pointer is moved via the arrow keys, with the "2nd" key behaving as a mouse click. Clicking the mouse will act as an "escape" function when the mouse is not over some other function, such as a menu selection. b. Program Menu: To run programs, simply point to the slot with the program name in it and click. To cancel, click in an empty slot or outside the slots. To install a program for use with WinTI, select "Start/Shut Down/Exit to TI-OS." Press "PRGM" ">" and scroll down to "(theta)INSTALL." Press "ENTER" and scroll down to the line that says :Text(1,9,""). Move the cursor to the second quote mark, and press "2nd" "DEL" and then type in the program name. Scroll down to the line that says :1. and scroll down to the next empty line. Press "prgm" "<" and scroll down to the name of the program you just entered. Press "ENTER" "2nd" "MODE" to return to the Home Screen. Repeat this process for each program, using the next available empty lines. c. Control Panel: The WinTI Control Panel was designed to be the perfect combination of ease and functionality. The options are simple, yet they allow for a wide variety of customization. The Wallpaper option allows the user to change desktop wallpaper. The User Pictures 2-6 correspond to Pic2-Pic6. If one of the User Pictures are selected and an error message occurs, than that picture file does not exist. Restart WinTI and select a valid picture. The Mouse Speed option allows the user to control how fast the mouse moves on the screen. 1 is the slowest and 7 is the fastest. The Auto-Shutdown automatically shuts down WinTI after a specified time of inactivity. The Timeout Delay allows the user to specifiy this interval. 1 is the shortest delay, and 10 is the longest. Enhanced Mode allows WinTI to take advantage of the Pic files as swap files, speeding up operation. Enhanced Mode uses ALL the pictures, so use this option with care. When Enhanced Mode is active, it can be deselected by choosing Standard Mode from the Control Panel. 4. Technical Notes: WinTI needs approximately 5000 bytes free before installing. After installation, it needs about 1000 bytes free in Standard Mode and 5000 bytes free in Enhanced Mode. The WinTI shell is written in TI BASIC, TI-82 specification. Assembly was deliberately avoided; for a further explanation of this, please see item 8, "A Word from the Mikesoft Team." A version history is not available, as we feel that it is not necessary. This version is the final version of WinTI. 5. Troubleshooting: WinTI is only able to generate 2 errors. The first results from pressing the "ON" key, which breaks execution. This error is common to all BASIC programs, and is an unavoidable "bug." The second error results from a missing Pic file, as there is no way to verify the existence of a Pic file within BASIC. If this error occurs, run "prgmWINSETUP" to correct the problem. Any other "bugs" are either caused by (a) user error, such as typing incorrect data, or (b) another program. 6. Contact Mikesoft: While every effort has been made to make this manual and shell easy to use, we understand that not every aspect can be addressed in full. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail us at Salmon1231@excite.com 7. Restrictions of Use: WinTI is freeware. We here at Mikesoft are getting nothing out of this except your enjoyment, so if you like WinTI, let us know! However, you are NOT licensed to modify, re-release, decompile, reverse engineer, or in any way use WinTI code for your own use. We have taken great pains to produce a truly great work, and we ask that you respect our time and our work. Feel free to distribute the original ZIP file! 8. A Word from the Mikesoft Team: With 4.1 being the final version of Windows TI, we felt that it would be fitting and proper to explain just why we went to so much trouble to create this shell in the first place. There are certain programmers out there that believe BASIC is only worthwhile for simple scripts and math programs. Our intent was to demonstrate the full potential of BASIC as something much more. We decided that a shell would be the ultimate test, and thus Windows TI was born. It has been over 2 years in development, from very humble beginnings, but we feel that our task has been accomplished. If you have any ideas for future Mikesoft projects, or if you have any ideas for Windows TI (Version 4.11 isn't an impossibility!) give us an e-mail at Salmon1231@excite.com. Thank you for using Windows TI! - The Mikesoft Team
