Final Fantasy X4 Manual By Alex Highsmith For OS-82 (moonbeem@ix.netcom.com) Dedicated to Amber Ah. Here I am, finally, three months later. FFX4 ASM is, definitely, the last in this series. I will be releasing other games, my next being an RPG, one character, heavy development and many many classes...non linear plot. If you want to see something different, you can e-mail me...of course, I really am not good with ASM...this game should be smaller, in my opinion. One last thing--don't ask me for source, please. I will release -parts- of it, like if i am asked a question very specific (ie. how do i check experience? how do i display blah and blah?) cause i don't want people to not learn ASM...i just want my source to remain untouched, for now (by the way, that's how i learned, by asing different people questions, not by looking at source). I will be releasing the source after my next game, due in a couple months...prolly longer because of school. Read on.... 0. Features I. Storyline II. Important Must Read Stuff III. Controls IV. Thanks V. Known Errors VI. Other Crap, I am sure no one will read (hints, tips) 0. Features ----------- *4 different worlds *2 characters *REALTIME battles *many spells, i forget the number *a winding plot with cut scenes to enhance *tons and tons of monsters *all graphical, no text crap *flawless save game feature, of course *treasure chests! with random -and- set treasure *lotsa other things I can't think of I. StoryLine ------------ ;; if you don't want to read this story, which is small, and which isn't ;; neccesarry, but adds depth to the game, just switch to ;; "Important Must Read Stuff". EVERYONE should read that. "Beauty spawns sadness; sadness spawns hope. Hope is the illusion" ~Unknown ...Isis Chere. Isis Chere. Isis Chere. "Isis Chere!!!! What is your rank soldier?" Spittle flew into the face of a young woman, who couldn't be past the age of 20, yet who's manner of speak and voice cast deciet upon the listener. "First Ark Sorceress of the 24th royal battalion, sir." The man in front of her spit on the floor between them. "Faster next time. Next, Darel Cusatarin...." His lambasting of the soldier next to her flew far, far away as Isis' mind wandered. Today was to be the excavation of the ship that had landed. The female sorceress/warrior had waited for this day since the news of the crash, nearly 1 week ago. Without warning the commanding officer's stern words came back into focus. "...We can only take a handful of you whelps with us. Darq and Isis", he said, turning to a man shrouded in his own shadow, sitting in the corner of the room. "...Darq and Isis, you are new. You will stay, and protect the King." Isis' expression was abruptly doused with a frown, and soured with angry eyes...angry, but too disciplined to object. All her eyes could do was glaze, and stare, at the phrase still hanging lewdly in the air, "you will stay, and protect the king." The man in shadows, Darq, said nothing. He looked at Isis and saw disappointment. He then slipped back into seclusion and secrecy. 5 days later. Isis sat in her room with herself and her memories. She was sitting rather tilted on her bed, reflecting herself with a handheld mirror. Dark blue eyes, golden hair streaked black (the effects of arcane arts on any user). Sculpted face like something out of an ice carvers dream. Isis mused on her face for a few moments. Then the letter came. It arrived with a knock, with a surprised, near mirror dropping knock; the kind of knock that a desperate man would make in his last plea for life. Isis opened the door as the rapping would not stop, and a boy handed her a letter. He then quickly departed, with the energy of youth that never seems to expire. The letterhead read URGENT, and Isis snapped it open immediately. "The team is dead, their bodies were found in the hills north of here. Isis, please help us. Take Darq, you are our only soldiers competent of finding out what did this. Oh, and their bodies...mutilated and half eaten, shelled out like beetles. I entreat you--no, you are demanded. You must go." The royal insignia rested at the bottom of the letter. **************************************** II. Important Must Read Stuff ----------------------------- *NEVER Press the ON button *FFX4 leaves you with 2000 Mem free. This may be more free in a future version (ie.. poor coding this time). *CLEAR exits the game III. Controls (pretty damn important too) ----------------------------------------- While in MAP screen: MODE: Bring up status screen CLEAR: Exit game, and exit status screen ENTER: Walk over building and press ENTER to enter a building DEL: Hold down for a quick battle While in BATTLE screen: 2ND: Select Fight, Magic, Item, and Defend MODE: Exits a menu (ie.. Magic, Item) DEL: Switches characters (not neccesary in most fights, since the game switches after each action is executed. IV. Thanks ---------- So many people to thank, i will start off with the following, in no particular order: Alphasoft, Irrumator, movax, Bill Nagel, waffy, DJackal, and a whole host of others who helped me learn ASM. It took hard work, and I still don't know jack shit really, but i'm at a good point right now. For graphics I have to thank my wonderful artist and girlfriend Amber Morales, who drew most of the cool scenes in the game. All other art by your loser truly, me. V. Known Errors --------------- As of now I can't think of any off the top of my head. There are a few interesting things, that could be changed, and as you play the game I am sure you will notice them. Aside from that, FFX4 won't crash your calc as long as you don't press the ON button. VI. Hints and Tips and personal lament -------------------------------------- So far most people who have beta tested have complained it's hard, and that is good--it is. You can't just hack and slash your way quickly through most of the game. Some other notes of importance are, you can't use Darq's flee from leaders, you can't save in dungeons, you should use healing spells as much as possible. Aside from that there aren't many secrets...the first boss can be beaten by using Darq and healing a lot with Isis. Now go, and conquer! Btw, it has a good end, not like FFX3. =] My lament/diatribe for this readthis.txt is such...I'm sorry this didn't come out much much sooner...I got sidetracked by Amber (my girlfriend), FF7--easily the best game ever, school restarting, and a few other minor things. As far as ticalc.org vs. ti-files goes...lol...I haven't even been following the "feud" since I left. I just hope some people have grown up a little. Enjoy the game! E-mail me with your ideas for the next one at moonbeem@ix.netcom.com. I don't know what my next game will be at all, except it will be asm.
