Hey, I backlit my 89, but beware, you have to remove the backing from LCD
and panel of steel behind it, I almost tore the ribbon cable. The 89's and
83Plus' LCD is directly on the board, as the other calcs are not.
I used an EL backlight kit, check out my site http://www.fission2.com for
the kits, they are $29.99 for everything you need!

Don't know where what you've been looking at.  Mine use arround 10ma to
drive 2ma.
