Buy a used computer in this order:
-Mac/Pee Sea = lots of software/support available. Its too easy to
hardware mod these. Here are plans to OC a Plus to 1GHz. :)
http://violet.berkeley.edu:80/~schrier/plus.html
-Amiga = These hold hands with macs as far as speed goes, but fall behind
in software (not quality, but quantity)
-Atari = These again hold hands with macs (and the Atari OS has been ported
to the mac) but their software library is very small.
-Alpha - A 166MHz alpha runs like a 40MHz mac or 66MHz pent. Beee aware...
-Sun - Not realy much software, but a 35MHz model will kick a 233MHz pent
where it hurts. 35MHz models cost about $1000, so maybe a 16MHz would be
better. :)
-SGI - These are only used for things like "Toy Story" and you'd kill
yourself to find software.
