At one place I worked a couple of years ago we had 186 based print server
boxes.  They were just little boxes with a thinnet connector and a parallel
port.
Plug them into the LAN and they'd find the Netware server and log in, then
you could print to the attached printer.  Pretty knifty little boxes.
