TI-H: Current thread

To Whom It May Concern(TWIMC):
I'm brand-new to this list, but have reviewed quite a few previous
entries. I, perhaps, can be forgiven for being confused: I thought that
software discussions were to be on a separate list and that this list was for
hardware discussions. The current thread is all about MSDOS vs. other
systems and I can't see where this has anything to do with hardware, per se.
I'm interested in finding out how to hook up the TI-86 to the real world
to send/receive data for controlling/monitoring purposes. I was hoping to
see some interest by others in the hardware (and, of course, to this extent,
at least, the software) needed to accomplish this feat. I have reviewed the
info about the Lego Robot by David E. West at M.I.T. and the temperature
sensor info by another person and hope to progress from there, though my
interests are not yet involved with making robots. My actual hobby is
experimental rocketry and I would like to see if the TI-86 can be used to
make some of the propellant-making operations remote, for safety purposes,
and if it can be also used to collect and massage data from static test runs.
This would help by not having to haul a computer system out to the desert.
I cannot afford a laptop, so it's going to have to be the TI-86 or some sort
of microcontroller, like a PIC.
Again, perhaps I'm just confused and this current thread is only a
temporary aberration, but I would hope that we'll get back to discussing
hardware soon. Thank you.
