The trick would be integrating it with a driver circuit. I'm sure that's hard
enough because most aren't made to be used as a high speed communication link.
I wonder what the switching speed on one of the drivers is? I've seen the
diodes and driver cards together for about $30, but just the other day I bought
a nice little laser pointer for $13... Maybe that could be gutted and used?
