That depends on how you obtain the THC, smoking is only one of the few
ways.  Also, a good bong removes most of the tar (and lots of other
imputires) in the smoke (THC is insoluble in water).  Soaking MJ in
alcohol will leech out the THC (and some other solubles), yeilding
what is often called an "Emerald Dragon", a green alcohol drink.
Point is, there are lots of ways to use MJ that do not involve smoking
it and tarring up ones lungs.
