I would suggest you spend some money and get yourself a system that will last a
while (7+ years). Yes you can get a system for $800, but of what quality? The
system I got cost me under $2000 when I got it (It's only $1800 now). It
includes:
PII 233 processor
Asus motherboard
64 meg of ram
4.2 gig Western Hard drive
Awe 64 sound card
24x Panasonic cd-rom
IDE Zip drive
56.6 US Robotics Modem
Altec Lansing speakers /w subwoofer
17 inch optiquest monitor
Keyboard+mouse

For being well known products $2000 in quiet reasonable.
