okay, for the driver issue. This'll need more than an AVR, but it'd be cool.
Driver sends type variable. if 86, then recv 86/85 types direct, if 83, then
only basic files, after conversion. If 82, same deal for basic, and run the
converter on 82ASM files.
This can go on and on.... :)
The end resulty is that you can get most files, and the driver only sees what
you can take into your calc.
In the end, with a complete interface and Tx/Rx controller interface, it
would end up being very expensive, and utterly useless to 82 users, who can't
take advantage of most of these features. To top it off, no 82 ASM shells
support proper VAT editing and so on, so it's really the 83ers who get
screwed.
