Re: TI-H: General questions with a possibly big im
And did I ever say that the AVR was weak? No. I'm saying, use a weak
processor for a weak task, and a powerful one for a powerful task. And in the
case of an HD interface, remember, most PCs were hobbled by the bus speeds back
in the days of the 486, unless you got a VLB IDE card, since PCI wasn't that
popular in the socket 5 boards. What you did was take ISA and replace it with
something better because you weren't worried about compatibility. Of course
that'll help you out. That's why making an mp3 player from an SBC is
overkill. You can do it cheaper and with far less power requirements if you
build one from the ground up.
The same thing for building a full blown portable VR system. You get what you
need, and if it's a dedicated 3d engine, liquid cooled CPU, and so on, that's
what you have to do.
Just like you don't tie your shoes with 2" thick cable, you don't hoist an
engine with some polyester thread.
