TI-H: $4 serial link problem

I know I ask before(on A-85) but I have some things to add.(BTW, this is 
going to A-85 and TI-H)

When I have a link software(I've tried all the windows serial software, 
Connect-85, ect) initialize COM2, the LED goes out.  This happens if I 
have the link connected to the both the PC and the 85, just the PC, and 
nothing connected(it's off when I put it back in).

What could be causing this??
It worked before but now it doesn't.
