RE: TI-H: Add LEDs to your link cable!
I have not seen any schematics that specify a part for the diode. I used 1N914
or equivalent and they do not regulate voltage.

Well, for the $4 link, the Zener diodes limit the voltage reaching the
calculator to 5V, and I don't think LED's have any kind of voltage
control, so you may be getting more than 5V to your calc... I think?
