how about an AC adapter plugged into the spinterface?
Also, What I think the system needs is a new cable, one that allows the cables to be stacked.  I know resistance will come into play here, but if one end of the cable had a pss-through, then they could all connect to this hub, allowing the multimaster routines to work over what might be a minimal length of cable.
