certified mail is pretty much guaranteed to arrive at the destination.
registered mail is really really secure (some gold co used to send gold
ingots by registered mail)
insured mail is where the contents are insure for breakage/loss/etc
plain old mail gets run thru machines, beat up, walked on, eaten by rats,
ground up, kicked around, ripped up, and in general mistreated (kidding
about the rats tho:P)
I work at the USPS so I do have some idea of what Im talking about.
