Anyway..........I guess all of you didn't understand my question.  Sorry.  I 
was unclear in my question.  Please let me restate.

I have a string stored in the variable var1.  OK now I need to create a new 
variable named with the string stored in var1.

Again this is on the 89.  I have tried the Rename command in various ways, 
but to no avail.  So if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.  
And also, thanks to all that have helped me thus far.
