take the 1st derivitive of the equation:
-4x, and set that equal to 0, and solve for x:
-4x=0
x=0
set in original equation and solve for f(x):
f(0)=-2(0)^2+500
f(0)=-2(0)+500
f(0)=0+500
f(0)=500
so,
(x,f(x))=(0,500)
is the maximum of the f(x)=-2x^2+500 equation.
