TI-83 speed-up???

I discovered a strange thing...

A friend of mine has got a tittle programme which draws a smiling face, then
a non-smiling face, and then a smiling face again...

Normally, this goes like this:

smile
[wait]
non-smile
[wait]
smile

But now the strange thing: as soon as you connect it to another
TI-calculator, the face changes a lot faster!!!

so then it goes
smile - non-smile - smile!!!

How come, and did anyone else ever experience this???
