Re: root problem's
In a message dated 98-01-27 03:24:52 EST, you write:
<<
Does anybody know why (-x)^(2/3) is not the same as ( 3rd root of (-x)^2) on
the TI 85 and is the same (but wrong) on the TI 86 ?
The point is : why can you plott (and solve) root's of (-x) in real ? I
thought it is only in comlex numbering system defined ???

Complex has nothing to do with these. Cube root of -8 is -2. Second case,
square of negative is positive, so subsequent cube-root is negative.
The TI prob was not being able to pick up on user's intention, and therefor
interpreting 2/3 as .6666666.......7, which, I guess, gives you your complex
result.
