Re: Thanks for the graphlink controversy
Q) Why doesn't a homemade graphlink work with zterm and a modem?
A) Only Texas Instruments made Graphlinks will work because they convert the
link signals into serial
Q) Why won't my homemade graphlink work in any link programs? I always
choose graphlink for my link?
A) You don't have a graphlink. You have either a serial or paralell link
cable. Try chooseing those.
Q) Why won't my homemade graphlink work in TI's link program?
A) You don't have a graphlink. You have to download a program off the
internet that will work with paralell or serial links and use it.
Q) Why is it called a homemade graphlink cable if it won't do some things
the store bought one will?
A) See the arcives of the calc-ti mailing list (located at www.ti-calc.org)
between February 14 and February 16-17 1998.
(Add that to the faq)
Don't get me wrong. I have a homemade paralell link cable that I made a
little over a year ago. I just don't like the thought of newbies (like me, a
year ago December or somewhere around there) coming in and hearing talk
about building a homemade graphlink cable, build one and then complain about
it not working anywhere a store bought one would. I have always, and always
will, call a homemade link cable a homemade link cable. It's not a
graphlink, it won't let me connect to the internet or a local bbs with a
modem or work with ti's excellent link program, but it's a plain vanilla
link cable that can backup and restore, load and unload programs on and off
of my calc.
If a person knows what they're doing, then they very well care if a homemade
link cable isn't a graphlink (ti's)!
BTW, what happened to the old faq announcements every Monday or so?
