If this is the same symptom as with TI-85, you will notice
that the cursor doesn't freeze - just slows down so much
that it almost seems like frozen.

With TI-85 this indicates that the computer port the link
cable is attached to has not been correctly initialized.
I'm not sure if any of this applies to TI-86, though.
