There have several posts of solutions to a question asked about how to
find the number of significant digits in a real number. I don't think
any have addressed the following probblem, and I am wondering if it is
possible?
2E5, 2.0E5, and 2.00E5 are all numerically equivalent, but they all have
different numbers of sig-figs (1, 2, and 3, respectively). Can they be
distingished by any other method than storing the number of sig-figs in
another variable? Any help is appreciated.
