Re: TI85 Phone Dialer
[Prev][Next][Index][Thread]
after quite a bit of testing, i'm writing preliminary reports on an
interesting TI-82 bug. i'm doing this so some of you with more time out
there can see what can be done with this.
WARNING: testing this will most likely cause the loss of ALL memory on
your calculator
now, if you put an equation in Y1 (i don't think the actual equation
matters, just its existence), then use the shade command, and break the
SHADE as it is drawing the graph of the equation, you can get some very
interesting results.
for example:
Y1=X
Shade(1,1,7 //no closing parenthasies.
then hit ON to break the function as it is displayed, the message "Mem
cleared" appears on the home screen, with a blinking cursor, and the
program indicator (the line in the upper right hand corner of the screen)
is running, indicating that there is some program in prgress. here's the
kicker: the memory isn't cleared!!
-the first two digits of the shade command don't seem to matter, but the
third digit can be either a 4,5,6, or 7, to get interesting results. 5
just locks up the calculator, 4 puts a cursor on the graph screen, and
displays the current x-coordinat in small type somewhere on the screen (it
varies). 6 does many different things. occasionally, it returns me to
the home screen and displays the number 3.2E-128 in small type with a
regular cusor below.
occasionally, after doing one of the above, if you look at the memory
information, it will say that there are between 22000 and 65000 bytes of
programs, with 28000 bytes free, but there won't be any programs in the
PROG menu!! if there are about 22K bytes in programs, and you run the
Shade(1,1,6. then break it and repeatedly hit last entry, you will get a
huge memory dump to the screen, faster than the display or output
functions could ever do it. once, i got random horizontal lines appearing
and disappearing on my screen, probably 10 or 20 lines flashing per
second!
some believe it possiblle to somehow enter assembler commands/mchine code
using this bug.
i would appreciate any information regarding this bug, and i encourage all
to experiment (BACK UP YOUR MEMORY FIRST!!!!!!!!!)
it has been known to work on ROM version 16 and 18, i haven't tried
others.
i take no responsibility for harm to your calculator.
any feedback is welcome at msimmons@lan.tjhsst.edu with subject:TI-82 bug.
have fun
