That's possible - I usually only have the batteries out for 15-30 seconds.

That's plausible....  Mixing old & new batteries only has the effect of 
insufficient current.  Possibly the hardware thought it could pull enough to 
run the RAM but it couldn't.  However, the Flash has (I think) a backup VAT 
of the things in Flash, thus preserving their locations after you remove all 
the batteries.  That is something that /needs/ to be looked into.
