I had the *exact* same problem. I redownloaded VTI and
put it in the same directory as before with the update
files there. Then, I ran it, and it worked.

Oh, yeah. Go to graphicsstudio.net and check out the
forums. There is a new version of VTI planned. Am I
the only one who goes there?
