multiplexes means that multiple data streams are all using the same line at
once. it sounds impossible, but not really. the system that controls the
line is just putting different parts of the streams on the line at each
time, so that if stream with data ABCD and stream with data ZYXW are being
multiplexed onto a line, it might go:
AZBYCXDW on the actual line
this is done so that more connections can be supported at once without
having to wait until one is completely done. this does slow the appearrance
line speed down. if you have 800 800kbyte streams trying to go onto a line
with a rated speed of 800kbytes/sec, to each stream, the line would appear
to be a 1kbyte/sec line. but if only one stream of 800kb was tring to get on
the same line, when empty, the line would appear to be its full 800kbyte/sec
speed.
get what i mean? or am i just confusing people more? :)
