A89: disabling interrupt 1

how can l disable only interrupt 1, the interrupt that handles the getkey 
stuff and the status bar?  l tried at first by disabling all interrupts, but 
that just made the calc go _really_ slow whenever a key was pressed and held 
down.  l am trying to do this so that l can read keypresses from the ports, 
without the calc slowing down any.
