I loaded AU3 on my calc just fine.  I have tios 1.0 build 7/27/98.  I tried 
to install it on my friends 89 with tios 1.0 build 7/27/98, and it said 
incompatible boot sector. I double checked everything and it looked good.  
He bought his calc later than I did.  I am going to try to re-flash tios 1.0 
to his calc and then try again.  Weird.  I hope  there is not more than two 
hardware versions.
